Prime Matter and Nightdive Studios announced this week that the remake of the 1994 classic System Shock officially has a release date for PC, a delay from the expected March launch of the title.

System Shock will launch on PC via Steam, Epic Game Store and GOG, on May 30 and a demo is now available to play. Console releases for Xbox and PlayStation systems will be “in the near future,” with an announcement coming soon, a press release says.

Developers said the game would sometime in March in an update to the game’s kickstarter in January, and developers addressed the change in an update on March 14.

“We had hoped to bring the game to market by the end of March but that turned out to be just beyond our reach; we are after all merely human (unlike Shodan!)”

Nightdive Studios worked closely with some members from the original System Shock team, including Shodan’s voice actor Terri Brosius, in an effort to preserve the cult gameplay of the original, combined with HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface, all-new sounds and music, never-before-seen enemies, quality of life tweaks to gameplay, a revamped hacking system, and new “visceral” combat options.

“Players use a combination of stealth, cunning and futuristic weaponry to make their way through Citadel Station’s all-new areas; players will encounter traps, puzzles and secrets in their quest to try and save Earth from destruction,” the press release says.

System Shock is available for pre-order and will include a “free copy of the upcoming System Shock 2Enhanced Edition for all early buyers,” the Kickstarter update says. Developers also outlined a number of updates to the game’s closed beta.
