Take at Peek at Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, Season of the Lost Starts Today

Bungie rolled out a showcase at Gamescom today that included a dive into Destiny 2‘s upcoming expansion The Witch Queen.

The Witch Queen is the latest entry in the Light & Darkness saga in Destiny 2 set to launch on February 22. The saga will continue with the launch of Lightfall in 2023.

The final chapter in the Light & Darkness Saga was revealed today with the title The Final Shape, but no release date was mentioned.

“For years, Savathûn’s schemes have unfolded, as she has assumed the identities of trusted allies and woven a web of lies that has spanned the galaxy,” developers said in a press release. “With the upcoming launch of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, Guardians will learn the truth behind her infernal plans and face a challenge unlike any they’ve encountered before: Enemies who are infused with the very Light that Guardians hold dear.

The Witch Queen will bring with it a way for players to forge weapons for the first time in game history, complete with unique combinations of mods, shaders, and advanced stats. Guardians will also gain the ability to wield the franchise’s first first-person melee weapon — the glaive.

A new destination will be available with The Throne World where Guardians will uncover mysteries surrounding both the Light and Darkness.

Enemies will be infused with the same Light that gives the Guardian’s their power and will feature sinister abilities that are both familiar and terrifying.

New challenges are incoming with the introduction of a new six-player matchmaking game, a new raid set in the heart of a sunken Pyramid ship and more.

30 Years of Bungie

Bungie will celebrate 30 years of game development in December and players will get a holiday treat to mark the occasion.

There is a bevy of free content planned for the anniversary including a new treasure-themed dungeon inspired by the infamous Loot Cave from the original Destiny that will reward players with new weapons and armor “inspired by Bungie games of yore, and more.”

Season of the Lost

Destiny 2 Season 15 starts today with the Season of the Lost.

“After a prolonged absence, Mara Sov, Queen of the Awoken, has finally returned to the Dreaming City. And although her return is unexpected, her intention is clear: to seek an audience with Savathûn, the Witch Queen. So begins the next chapter in Destiny 2’s ongoing narrative, as forces converge, unlikely partnerships are formed, and mysteries deepen,” developers said.

There will be a new exotic quest for players to tackle for a chance to snag a special Exotic Weapon.

“Breathe life into slumbering Awoken technology and triumph over those who fear the Light in Astral Alignment, a six-player matchmade activity,” developers said. “Align the ley-line network and then Wayfind through the Shattered Realm in search of Mara Sov’s lost tech witches. Rescue them and use the power they bestow to see this mysterious landscape with new eyes – to reach the unreachable.”

Cross-Play is launching with the Season of the Lost so gear up with your favorite Guardians — regardless of what they play on.
