Mondo Immortalizes John Williams’ Iconic Score for ‘A.I: Artificial Intelligence’ in Vinyl Release – Review

We received the opportunity to check out the score for A.I: Artificial Intelligence on vinyl that was recently released by Mondo.

With John Williams turning 93 earlier this year, I was given the opportunity to check out a special vinyl release of the maestro’s score for A.I: Artificial Intelligence that was recently released exclusively by Mondo. This release comes with several color options for the records. The copy I received features a set of two records, one red while the other is blue, with gorgeous gatefold art by Sara Wong paying tribute to David’s search for The Blue Fairy.

The outer cover of this record is also beautiful and quite different from what I’m used to seeing. Most of the records in my collection have thick cardboard to enclose the records. This soundtrack, by contrast, was encased in a thick, plastic material with the activation instructions for the David android printed on the front.  The material is also transparent, so as the records are removed from each side, the listener is able to see the liner notes on the back. I find myself wishing all records came in covers like this, as this is one time I don’t have to worry about the cover getting scratched or tearing over time.

It’s been many years since I heard any of the music for A.I: Artificial Intelligence and the sound quality on both records is quite frankly incredible. Each piece sounds out loud and clear and I quickly found myself sucked into the music as only a John Williams score can do. The remastered sound is so good in fact, that if I weren’t watching the record spin, I wouldn’t think I was listening to a vinyl record at all.
