Filmmakers often plan ahead, and many of the movies which come out each year are designed to be part of a multi-film series. However, it doesn’t always work out that way. Sometimes, the first sequel bombs and the third movie never gets made. Here are 6 short movie franchises that remained unfinished.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is going to be the launching point for the future of the entire DC Cinematic universe. It needs to set up the Justice League film, as well as the upcoming solo films. Could all this mandatory world-building clutter up the film too much, so that the overall film suffers?
I tried real hard not to write this, honestly I just don’t want to believe it and was hoping Sony would be quick to kill the rumor. Instead the rumor is spreading like fire, mostly because people despise the idea, and Sony is nowhere to be found. Of all things Sony could do with Spider-Man, a terrible movie solely based on a “young Aunt May” could possibly be in the works…..
At one time, it was almost unheard of for a sequel to be made beyond five years after the original (or the previous entry) came out. In recent years, we’ve had many franchises being revisited after several decades, as well as there being other old film series due to be revived soon. Is this becoming a new trend, and if it is, is it a good idea? Does it help or hurt the business?
It seems common to talk about Sony and a lack of plans lately, and their movie studio is no different. Besides a few blockbuster surprises, Spider-Man has been carrying the studio ever since they got licensing rights. So it’s obvious why Sony Pictures protects it like a newborn baby and why they got super worried when the latest film was met with poor critic reviews and moderate box office numbers. Did it fail? No, not by any means, but it wasn’t a success like they intended.
Rumor has it that Marvel is once again in talks with Sony to bring Spider-Man to their universe. If you know these rumors well you will know that this isn’t the first time. Rumor had it even the Oscorp tower was meant to be in Avengers, but failed plans didn’t allow it. This time the rumor is Marvel is helping Sony restructure their Spider-Man universe, while also bringing him to their own. Sony is better off doing it!
Andrew Garfield has addressed the criticism of Amazing Spider-Man 2 and lays the blame for its failings squarely on the shoulders of Sony. He reveals that the studio had “problems with certain parts of it” and made changes. He also speaks about appearing (maybe) in the Sinister Six.
According to sources close to Sony's studios, they are undergoing a massive revamp of their Spider-Man plans. They originally had films laid out for the next few years, the first being Amazing Spider-Man 3 in 2016. Those planned changed suddenly after Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn't see sky high box office numbers. The new plans consist of Amazing Spider-Man 3 being pushed back a few years. the Sinister Six movie being pushed up to 2016, and a possible female lead in a 2017 spot!
With the latest entry in the Spider-Man movie franchise being the lowest grossing yet, is Sony getting nervous about the box office clout of the web-spinning hero? According to ‘Aint It Cool News’, the sequel is being delayed for a year due to the disappointing performance of the latest film.
Sony has announced that they plan to build a whole universe of films surrounding just Spider-Man, and as a Spider-Man fan this couldn’t be any cooler. However beyond the initial Sinister Six and core films, we don’t really know where else they will go. Unless they were indeed giving us very slight clues in the movie and current game. Based on what we’ve seen so far, we think it might be possible that Sony is heading towards an adaptation of the Clone Saga.
