The last few months of the year are known as Oscar season because it is the time in which studios release the films they intend to have contend for the Academy Awards. But just because you release your film during this time doesn’t automatically make it good enough to compete. Here are some infamous examples.
With Logan getting such great reviews, it’s become one of the best received comic book adaptations ever, both with fans and critics. Is this film good enough to be considered in the same class as The Dark Knight, and overcome the label of being a “super hero movie”?
Some un-released thoughts have been running amuck my headspace, and a recent re-watch of Spring Breakers pulled the trigger. Probably three films you never thought you'd see in the same corner, Spring Breakers, American Sniper, and a 'dash' of Inherent Vice, are the films I chose to defend. Read below, my curious brain splurge.
How many films can accurately claim that they started a genre? A Fistful of Dollars can. Maybe a spaghetti western is more of a sub-genre, and more about the method of making the movie than the plot or the setting, but this film is still one of the very few examples where brilliant innovation gave the world a type of movie it had never seen the likes of before.
Expendables 2 is hitting theaters this week, but by Hollywood standards these days, that's awfully late to be talking about a sequel (even if it seems early to all of us). Thus the producer, Avi Lerner, is already talking about who they want to add to the cast for the third film...and they all sound awesome.
