There are intense rumors swirling that Microsoft is going to make a major acquisition “soon” that may shake the industry. We aren’t talking about timed third party exclusives, we;re talking Microsoft taking over an entire company...A big one, like EA. Microsoft buying EA could be devastating to the industry, but purchasing something like Valve could be a perfect fit. Let me explain.

Take a peak around any gaming community these days and you’ll find complaints in abundance about the recent trend of video game remakes/ports to new consoles. I hate to break it to you, but it’s not a new trend. Let’s talk about the history of gaming remakes and why they serve a more important purpose than pissing off people.
While most of us have been focused on GDC, EA shut down development studio Maxis. While it’s not the TOTAL end of studio (Maxis Emeryville, the studio behind SimCity, Spore and The Sims, received the boot) as Maxis will still be operating in a number of other offices spread out across America, the UK, China, India and Finland, the way in which it was handled is what’s making us the most upset.
