I've never been a big Winnie the Pooh fan. As a child who grew up in a household full of sic-fi nerds, the 1,000 Acre Woods really didn't hold any fascination for me. I was more interested in a future world where fully dressed apes spoke to each other and tortured humans the same way they had been.
Last year, a paltry three films were nominated for a best animated feature Oscar. That's because, unless a year has more than 16 films in contention for the title, the nominee count can be no bigger than three. Well this year a whopping 18 films are vying for the title. July is the halfway point of Summer, but in no way is the season slowing down. In fact, July is one of the most packed months of them all, with a whopping 12 films set for release. For those of you who were not already aware of this, it was announced last year that Disney would be bringing the classic and beloved honey-eating bear and his gang back to the big screen. The movie, simply titled Winne the Pooh, will mark the first time in 35 years since Hundred Acre Wood has graced the big screen. Even better news than that, however, is Disney is going with traditional hand-drawn animation, eschewing the notion of updating him with a CG look that just wouldn't look right.
