The extended gameplay trailer for Insomniac’s Wolverine was revealed during a State of Play for Summer Games Fest 26.

It seems Insomniac was just patiently waiting to get a little more violent than Spider-Man would let them. The trailer showcases Wolverine ripping limbs off, throwing enemies into forklits, and even using a partner in Jean Grey to obliterate a few enemies.
If you’re an X-Men fan you might have noticed some other apperances including Sabertooth, Mystique, Omega Red, Boliver Trask, and The Reavers as well. It’s also all fitting in nicely to the timeline of Wolverine operating as part of Team X, and not the X-Men.
The trailer also showcased some of the core gameplay mechanics. Every landed hit, parry, and kill charges up his rage, and activating it increases attack power or activates his healing ability to survive near death. A cool aspect appears to be the ability to hit level 3 of rage where the gameplay will turn black and white, a nod towards the Black, White, and Blood series by Marvel Comics.
While at the show, Insomniac and Sony announced that pre-orders are finally going up for PS5. You can order physical edition, along with a digital and digital deluxe edition. The deluxe edition includes :

The game is releasing on September 15, 2026 for PS5. However no further edition’s were announced for the game like other Sony first party titles received. So no collectors edition, steelbook, or special reason to pre-order anything physical. Which is disapointing to me as I was looking forward to a Wolverine bust figure.
Insomniac did say they still have a few announcements, so we could possibly hear something more on Friday during SGF26, or at another State of Play before launch. I do hope we at least get a special edition controller or something special to go with the release.
