Funcom’s Dune: Awakening is finally getting a console release (and sooner than you think), which brings some fresh updates and a full-on single-player mode.
One of the big appeals with Dune: Awakening during the lead-up to its release, was the knowledge this massive MMO would also be coming to consoles. That way every gamer would have a chance to explore Arrakis. Almost a year from its launch on PC, however, we haven’t heard much about the console version.
This is understandable as the team was working on fixes and quality of life updates (not to mention a few story expansions) to make the overall experience even better. Still, after so long without an update, some fans were worried. Today, during the PlayStation State of Play presentation, all those fears have been set aside!
Dune: Awakening is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X on September 22nd. That date will also bring the “Book One” story to a close so gamers who’ve been enjoying the journey so far can see how this part closes out!
Their site has a full, more detailed, breakdown of everything included in the console launch, but you can check out a quick look below:
Combining all the new content, features, and improvements that have rolled out on PC during the past year, with the slew of new additions coming for both PC and console in September, Funcom is set to release the definitive version of the Arrakis survival experience on all three platforms.
Highlights of what’s coming with the September release:
Console: Same experience as on PC, with controls and UI optimized for console. 60fps target for both PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X (Performance Mode).
Single-player: The full game can now be played entirely in single-player, with scalable difficulty and a wide range of gameplay customization settings
Story complete: The grand finale of Book One, offering a dramatic conclusion to Dune: Awakening’s cinematic storyline. Play it from start to finish.
Scalable difficulty: Tweak everything from harvesting rates to experience gain and combat difficulty. In single-player and private servers, you’re in control.
New players on PC and console will also get to enjoy all the many new additions and improvements that have been rolled out on PC since launch, including:
Optional PvP: In multiplayer, the entire game can be played in full PvE, including the vast, open Deep Desert and participation in the faction vs. faction conflict
Bigger, better late game loop: Rebuilt from the ground up, providing a much more balanced, immersive, and content-rich experience for all players
No more loss: Thanks to the vehicle backup tool and the base reconstruction tool, in multiplayer, you can now take extended breaks without losing progress
Self-hosted servers: On PC, host your own server without having to rent one, and fully customize the experience for you and your friends
New content: The story has expanded and several new map locations have been added, offering new challenges and epic rewards
Quality of life: Countless quality of life improvements has been added, from character re-customization, the removal of taxes, and much more
While it’s kind of a bummer there isn’t cross-play/save that allows players to transport their current builds over to the console version, the new single-player mode gives me a great excuse to dive back into the story. Either way, it’s great for Dune fans as they prepare for Dune: Part Three in theaters later this year!
Dune: Awakening hits PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X on September 22, 2026. Pre-orders are live now for Standard ($50), Deluxe ($70), and Ultimate ($90) editions.
