LEGO Party! was just revealed during the Summer Game Fest showcase and Cinelinx got a hands on look at the chaotically fun family-friendly party game during Play Days.
The game features a ton of LEGO worlds, like the beloved Ninjago franchise, across its four wacky Challenge Modes more than 60 minigames that will have your family and friends frothing at the mouth to win.
The game allows for up to four players, either local and couch co-op or online, go head-to-head in the classic party game fun popularized by games like Mario Party. Pick one of the many mini figure options to represent you (I picked the Fox costume, while Cinelinx’s Caleb AKA S0LEB picked the ol’ Grandpa).
We went up against each other and some other Summer Game Fest visitors and got the chance to play some minigames that included rhythm games, matching, racing and more all in the pursuit of those sweet, sweet Golden Bricks. The winning position is determined by the number of both Gold Bricks and Studs you collect.
You can collect some clutch power-ups, including powers to slow the roll counter, get only high rolls (up to 8), a Gold Brick finder, to go backwards and more.
As the game progresses, players will have the chance to unlock traps and map changes, along with classic strategies to steal bricks or foil your competition in the process. The game enters Escalation mode when your total turns are halfway completed and again in the last round, increasing both penalties and rewards.
In our conversation with SMG Studio, who is releasing the game under the Fictions publishing banner, we learned that LEGO was excited about the creation of a party-style game.
While the game is developed independently of other LEGO Games, like the many beloved titles under the TT Games flag, LEGO Party! is not lacking an iota of classic LEGO charm and humor.
LEGO Party! will be a must-grab game when it launches later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
