The first Splitgate was a breakout free-to-play surprise in 2019, giving FPS fans a whole new dimension to engage their foes by integrating a portal-opening mechanic similar to the Valve first-person puzzler of the same name. Now, 1047 Games is looking to make that lightning strike twice with the upcoming sequel, dropping a new trailer and news of an open beta. Check out the trailer on YouTube or just take a second or fifteen to watch it right here:
This teaser lives up to its name, tantalizing players with hints of 25+ new weapons, 15+ new maps, and 10+ modes to boot. It’s a veritable smorgasbord of new content on its own, but the devs have also teased an “infinite” amount of new maps. Whether this means procedural creation, a level editor, or something altogether different, we’ll have to wait and see, as the devs have promised to reveal what they mean by this very soon.
Fans of the first and newcomers alike should come check out the open beta when it launches on May 22. Those on the fence, keep your eyes peeled for promised additional information closer to the beta launch!
Splitgate 2Â is schedule to release sometime in 2025 on PC, Playstation 4/5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with crossplay across all platforms.
