The Hunter Returns to Its Roots: Watch the Turok Origins Gameplay Trailer

Game developers love to go digging through old intellectual properties to find games of old that never truly got a chance to shine, and the gaming industry is littered with old ghosts. The original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was a classic Nintendo 64 attempt to cash in on the late 90’s wave of violent video games, and though it and its successor, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil were commercial and critical successes, the subsequent attempts to continue the line were met with ever diminishing sales, and even the 2015 remakes of the original two were met with mostly cold takes.

That’s never stopped a developer before, however, and at Summer Games Fest, Saber Interactive unveiled their latest project, Turok: Origins. Offering whole new look at the franchise, Saber looks to be taking their expertise from Space Marine 2 to new heights. Today, they just released a gameplay trailer for Origins, and, though short, definitely shines a light as to what can be expected from the new title:

The addition of a first-person mode to better emulate the originals is a nice touch, and despite the visuals still appearing a wee bit on the generic side, there’s still a lot of potential here to make something fun. Gamers have long since discovered that there is an inherent fun factor in slaying dinosaurs, after all, so that alone is a powerful base to stand on. Plus, with online co-op promised and the tease of some of the original two games’ greatest weapons to come (old heads will very fondly remember the brain-splattering joy of Turok 2’s Cerebal Bore), there’s still a lot to look forward to when it comes to Turok!

Turok: Origins is loosely scheduled for a Fall 2026 release, and will be available on Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
