Amazon Picks Up God Of War Series For Prime Video

God of War is heading to Prime Video with the Wheel of Time showrunner leading the way.

Prime Video will be getting a live action series based on God of War which will be led by Rafe Judkins, showrunner of Wheel of Time which also airs on Prime Video.

The description so far leads us to believe it will be following the same storyline as the rebooted game in 2018 with Amazon’s description stating:

Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard.

The good news is that Sony’s own studio is producing the film in collaboration with PlayStation Studios, which includes creative director from Sony Santa Monica Cory Barlog helping produce the show. Other people attached include writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, from Iron Man and Children of Men. The show is set up to be a co-production of Amazon Studios, Sony Studios, and PlayStation Productions.

The show joins a growing list of gaming franchises that are getting the live action treatment. Sony’s The Last of Us is about to hit HBO Max (Or whatever Discovery turns that into), and Uncharted recently had a successful showing in theaters. Hopefully this one turns out to be nothing like the Halo TV series that Paramount poorly put together though.

We don’t know much more than the initial announcement and a few kind words between studios, but count us in as being excited!
