Scott Derrickson returns to his horror roots in the first trailer for The Black Phone, offering plenty of thrills and chills.

This week, Blumhouse and Universal revealed the first trailer for Scott Derrickson’s new horror film, The Black Phone…And it’s pretty good:

I had no idea what to expect from the film (I honestly haven’t been keeping up with it), but this trailer has definitely piqued my interest. While the setup may sound typical, with a serial killer abducting kids, the paranormal element of previous victims helping from beyond the grave pushes it over the top. Sign me up for this one.

Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

The Black Phone is set to hit theaters on February 4, 2022.
