GKIDS to Distribute Miyazaki’s New Film ‘The Boy and the Heron’ in North America

Fans will be able to see Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film in North American theaters thanks to GKIDS.

It’s been announced that GKIDS has acquired the North American distribution rights to Hayao Miyazaki’s newest film, The Boy and the Heron, a film that’s being released in Japan without any promotion of any kind. As far as anyone knows, The Boy and the Heron is set to be Miyazaki’s final film, and it comes a full decade after his previous film The Wind Rises.

According to the official release from Studio Ghibli, we are to know nothing about this film before its release:

“In an unprecedented decision by Studio Ghibli, no images, trailers, synopses, advertisements, or other information about the film have been made available to the public prior to its release in theaters in Japan. In keeping with this policy, GKIDS will not release any further details or marketing materials at this time.”

The Boy and the Heron will be in North American theaters later this year.
