The cast of the Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars film is growing, with the addition of Matt Smith…hopefully for real this time!
‘Matt Smith Joins Star Wars’ might be a headline that’s giving you some déjà vu. That’s because seven years ago, Variety reported he’d joined the cast of Episode IX (before it was titled The Rise of Skywalker). While his role in that film was ultimately cut from the script (he never shot any scenes), it looks like he’s getting a chance once again to play around in the galaxy far, far away.
Deadline is reporting the former Doctor Who actor, and current House of the Dragon bad boy, has joined the cast of Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter. He’ll reportedly be taking on a villainous role (Mia Goth will presumably share those duties as well) opposite Ryan Gosling.
Plot details are being kept underwraps for the moment (other than it being set five years after The Rise of Skywalker), but casting is definitely gearing up. It sounds like they’re currently zeroing in on the younger leads as well as other supporting cast. As the film is set to begin filming in the next couple months, I suspect we’ll start hearing more casting announcements rather soon.
Star Wars: Starfighter is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
