Movie icon Mel Brooks released a fun announcement video today, confirming his return for Spaceballs 2 as Yogurt! Even better, the film has a release window.
Spaceballs 2 is a real film that is (finally) really happening. Josh Gad and Benji Samit have been officially working on the film for a while now, but it looks like things are actually moving forward and getting ready to film. Today Amazon/MGM studios confirmed the film is set to arrive in theaters in 2027 and will bring back Mel Brooks himself as the iconic Yoda parody character, Yogurt.
Mel Brooks (who recently turned 99!) posted a teaser/announcement for the film to confirm the news. Fittingly, the announcement itself is pretty damn hilarious.
The man looks pretty incredible for 99, and I’m thrilled to see he’ll be back for the sequel in some form. Josh Greenbaum is handling directing duties this time around, with Josh Gad expected to star. Other than that…details on the sequel are relatively scarce. With movement finally happening, hopefully we’ll learn more about other potentially returning cast members and the plot before too long.
Let’s cross those fingers they find a way to convince Rick Moranis to come back.
