The first trailer for Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel, Project Hail Mary, has arrived. It’s pretty great.
Today brings our first look at the latest Andy Weir adaptation (he also wrote The Martian), which puts Ryan Gosling as an out of his depth science teacher light years away from Earth on a desperate mission to save the entire planet.
While it feels like it shows a whole lot, this trailer really isn’t giving away as much as you’d think. That said, I love it. The tone feels like a great balance between serious (grounded) Sci-Fi and something a little more fantastical, combined with a human element that hooks me immediately. Throw in some end of the world action, the Ryan Gosling charm, plus some slick looking visual style (thanks to Lord and Miller), and this movie looks like it’s going to be a ridiculous amount of fun.
On top of the swanky trailer, we also get a brand new poster to go along with it:
Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.
Project Hail Mary is set to hit theaters on March 20, 2026.
