See Where it Started in the First Trailer for The Many Saints of Newark

The first trailer for The Sopranos prequel movie has released, taking viewers back to the mean streets of Newark, New Jersey to witness the origin of Tony Soprano.

This October, Warner Bros. Pictures is set to release the prequel movie of the critically-acclaimed HBO series The Sopranos, The Many Saints of Newark. The film stars Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Jon Bernthal, Leslie Odom Jr., Ray Liotta, and Michael Gandalfini (son of the late James Gandalfini) as Tony Soprano.

In the first trailer for The Many Saints of Newark, we get our first glimpse of Michael Gandalfini seemingly nailing his father’s iconic role. Plus, loads of shady situations that made The Sopranos an all-time great series.

Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark’s history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters begin to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family’s hold over the increasingly race-torn city. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, who struggles to manage both his professional and personal responsibilities—and whose influence over his impressionable nephew will help make the teenager into the all-powerful mob boss we’ll later come to know: Tony Soprano.

The Many Saints of Newark hits theaters and HBO Max on October 1, 2021.
