Simon McQuoid Returns to Direct Mortal Kombat Sequel

The follow-up to last year’s Mortal Kombat reboot is taking a big step forward as New Line/Warner Bros is bringing Simon McQuoid back to direct.

After launching both in theaters and on HBO Max last year (and managing to do well on both), Warner Bros went ahead and put a sequel to Mortal Kombat into development. Since then, things have been relatively quiet, aside from the announcement earlier this year that the Moon Knight writer was on board to pen the script this time.

Today, however, brings word that New Line Cinema have signed Simon McQuoid on to direct the upcoming sequel, giving him the chance to continue the story he started. The report comes from Deadline…and that’s about it!

Still no word on the story this time around, though it seems safe to say we’ll see the ACTUAL tournament this time, nor any idea when we might see it. Still, with a writer and director fully on board, hopefully production isn’t too far away.
