Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Movie Lands Love and Monsters Screenwriter

Word has come out about who is helping Patty Jenkins develop the script for the next big screen Star Wars adventure, Rogue Squadron.

This afternoon brings some fun Star Wars news thanks to the folks over on The Hollywood Reporter. They’ve reported that Matthew Robinson is the person writing the script. He recently wrote the screenplay for Love and Monsters (which was really good) and also co-wrote/directed Ricky Gervais’ The Invention of Lying.

It’s important to note that Robinson has BEEN working on the film already. During an interview with Collider at the beginning of the year, Patty Jenkins herself teased his involvement, saying:

“I want him to have his own proper announcement, so I’m going to wait until that comes out, but we’re very far into the, we’re finishing the treatment basically, which is pretty big. So it ends up being like where you’re fairly close to a screen, a well-along screenplay by the time I’m done with the treatment in my process. So yeah, we’ve been working on it for a while. It’s going great. I’m super excited about it.”

So yeah, things are progressing along quite nicely for the film, and from what I’ve heard, production is already starting to “crew up” and casting searches won’t be far behind. Full pre-production is expected to happen this Fall, with filming going down in early 2022.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is slated to hit theaters on December 22, 2023.
