The Casual Cinecast Reviews Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and The Favourite!

With two full length reviews to get through, the guys shorten their usual What’s On Our Minds segment where they talk about the TV and film they’ve been watching. In this week’s What’s On Our Mind, Justin returns from his week out of town and they briefly go over his eventful trip to New York City where he saw a Broadway play, a ballet, a taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and even made a marriage proposal!

Then Mike, Chris and Justin hop into the first review of the awards season contender, The Favourite! The film is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Lobster) and stars Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman. It’s set in 18th century England and tells the story of Queen Anne, her close friend Lady Sarah and a new servant, Abigail, who begins to win the favour of the queen. Find out if this film is indeed one of the best films of 2018 and if any Oscars lie in its future!

The show moves on to a lighter film with the new animated comic book film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse! The film stars the voices of Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson and Hailee Steinfeld and tells the story of Miles Morales, a boy who becomes Spider-Man shortly before a device opens his dimension to others and he encounters several different versions of Spider-Man from alternate dimensions! Did that sound awesome to you? Or just confusing? Rest assured the Casual Cinecast will let you know whether it’s awesome, confusing, funny, bad, weird or existentially depressing in their review.
