This morning brings a brand new trailer for Denis Villenueve’s Dune, and it’s ridiculously gorgeous. It may have added years to my lifespan.
It’s been a LONG wait for Dune. Hell, for some, it’s been nearly a couple decades of waiting to see another live-action version of Frank Herbert’s story come to life. After getting a great trailer last year, the film was pushed back to this year. Thankfully, this morning’s trailer makes it clear the wait will be well worth it:
There are a lot of things I love about this trailer. For one, it’s very pretty. Secondly, it really hammers home the more personal/emotional connections that make the story so impactful. You get to see the humor/banter, and the earnestness even with the big action and blockbuster backgrounds. I just need October to hurry up.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
Dune arrives in theaters and HBO Max on October 22, 2021.
