Cathy Yan to Direct Live-Action ‘Paprika’ Series

It’s been announced that a live-action adaptation of Paprika is in the works and it will be directed by Cathy Yan.

In exciting news, Deadline reported earlier today that Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey) will both executive produce and direct a live-action TV adaptation of the Yasutaka Tsutsui novel of the same name. The book was previously adapted into an anime movie in 2006.

According to the report, the series is being created for Amazon Studios and Hivemind.

For those not familiar with the story of Paprika, it can be summarized as follows:

Paprika involves the theft of a machine that can enter people’s dreams. With the thief having the potential to cause serious psychological damage, Dr. Atsuko Chiba enters the dream world to stop the culprit.

There’s currently no timeline for when Paprika might enter production or be released.
