New ‘Lanterns’ Trailer Unleashes the Green, and a Mystery

The all new trailer for the upcoming Lanterns series offers fans a better look at Hal Jordan’s powers in action while teasing the mystery they’ll be trying to solve.

Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart’s contentious relationship takes center stage in the latest Lanterns trailer, which also gives us plenty of powers on display.

Unlike the first teaser, fans finally get a good look at the ring’s power in action this time around, plus some fun teases of other Lantern lore. Guy Gardner even pops up, hammering home the fact the show takes place both before (in the last trailer Hal mentions being the only human Green Lantern) and after the events of Superman. Presumably the mystery/murder Hal and Stewart are working to solve is the connecting thread.

Either way, I’m definitely digging this teaser quite a bit more. While Hal’s flying still looks…wonky, the overall look and tone of the show feels pretty great. As a long time Green Lantern fan I’m still hyped for what this show could bring to the table.

The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The LANTERNS pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct.

Lanterns is set to debut on HBO/HBO Max on August 16, 2026.
