New Star Wars Animated Series About Maul Revealed

During Lucasfilm’s Animation panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan, they revealed the next animated series, Maul: Shadow Lord.

Overnight (for us on this side of the globe), to close out day one of Star Wars Celebration Japan, Lucasfilm’s animation panel gave fans what they’ve been waiting for: details on the next animated series. Since The Bad Batch wrapped up last year, many have wondered what would be next, with plenty of wild speculation. Now we know, the next series is all about MAUL.

If you’re at all familiar with me as a Star Wars fan, you know this is somewhat massive for me. Maul has been the focus of my collection for 25 years now and he remains my favorite character. As such, you may have heard me squealing in glee when I awoke to the news this morning.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord puts the focus on Maul (once again voiced by Sam Witwer) as he builds/rebuilds his criminal syndicate following the end of the Clone Wars. Since we know he becomes the leader of Crimson Dawn, even working directly with Qi’ra after Solo: A Star Wars Story, there’s a whole lot of interesting ground left to cover!

Fans attending the panel got a sneak peak at the show, which sounds like will feature a slightly different animation style than the previous Clone Wars/Bad Batch/Tales of shows. Hopefully we’ll get to see that footage before too long, but for now, I’m just happy to know it exists.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will hit Disney+ at some point in 2026.
