Mario Kart 8: Release Date and New Racers announced!

The latest Nintendo Direct brings us the great news that Mario Kart 8 will be available on the Wii U from the 30th of May. It is also exciting to find out that the Mario Kart roster will be getting 7 new additions; Bowser’s Koopalings.

The Koopalings appear as bosses in a variety of SNES mario games and still bear resemblance to their 16-bit former-shells. It was once thought that the Koopalings were the children of Bowser but  Shigeru Miyamoto cleared up the confusion in 2012 during an interview with Game Informer, stating “our current story is that the Koopalings are not Bowser’s children.”

This elite Koopaling team are named after rockstars with  Iggy, Larry, Lemmy, Ludwig, Morton, Roy and Wendy. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes which means players can expect a nice range of speed and weight.

The Koopalings are surely a welcome addition to the Mario Kart family, promising to bring mean behaviour. “We just love being mean!” —Koopalings, Super Mario Bros. 3 manual.
