New Pokémon Legends Game Arrives in 2025

During this morning’s Pokémon Presents showcase, Game Freak announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

It’s Pokémon Day 2024 and with it brought a new Pokémon Presents livestream. While there wasn’t as much gaming news as some had hoped (keep those remake hopes alive people), we did get a glimpse at the next major title from Game Freak, which will return to the Pokémon Legends moniker.

Considering how much I loved Pokémon Legends: Arceus, I’m pretty excited to see what this one brings to the table. Seriously, it’s probably the most engaged I’d been with a Pokémon title in years. As such, I’m thrilled to see how the next Legends game changes things up.

While we don’t get any look at gameplay in the announcement trailer, there are some interesting details we can glean. Namely, it looks like we’ll be tasked with building up a city for both humans and Pokémon to thrive. I’m all about a Pokémon-esque city-builder, or at least a Pokémon game with those elements. Also, there’s been confirmation the game will see the return of Mega Evolutions!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A, an ambitious new entry to the Pokémon video game series, will be released simultaneously worldwide on Nintendo Switch in 2025. An exciting new adventure awaits players within Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to shape the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon.

No release date is given, but Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to hit Nintendo Switch systems (yes, plural, as in likely on the Switch 2) in 2025.
