SEGA Announces Sonic Colors: Ultimate, a New Sonic Team Game, & More at Sonic Central Event

With everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog turning 30, SEGA held the first-ever virtual event called Sonic Central. Sonic Central debuted trailers for remakes of classic Sonic games, a teaser for a new Sonic Team game, and a whole lot more.

For 30 years, Sonic the Hedgehog has been one of the most beloved, most iconic characters in video game history. In actuality, it’s not just in video game history. With a plethora of animated TV shows and the success of 2020’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie, the Blue Blur has become a household name in every entertainment medium.

In honor of 30 years of excellence, SEGA held the first-ever Sonic Central virtual event. The event was used as a vehicle to announce a ton of new Sonic the Hedgehog content that will no doubt excite fans for months and years to come. See all the announcements below:

Sonic Colors: Ultimate

One of the main events of Sonic Central was the announcement of Sonic Colors: Ultimate. The game is a remaster of 2010s Sonic Colors and will release both digitally and physically on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, with a digital-only release on PC via the Epic Game Store on September 7, 2021. You can pre-order the game now to receive an exclusive “Baby Sonic” keychain and other bonus items.

Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps

SEGA also announced a new 2-part animated series based on the Sonic Colors game. It’s called Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps and it will see the return of legendary Sonic voice actor, Roger Craig Smith.

New Sonic Team Game

One of the most exciting announcements from the entire virtual event was the reveal of a new game from Sonic Team, the makers of Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces. It’ll be a mainline, flagship Sonic the Hedgehog game set to release in 2022.

The rest of the Virtual Event featured a reveal for Sonic Origins, a new compiled series that includes Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles as well as Sonic CD. SEGA also announced that Sonic Mania and Team Sonic Racing are now available on Amazon Luna. In addition, Sonic Forces, Team Sonic Racing, and Sonic Mania will come to PlayStation Now on June 1, 2021 and on June 24th Sonic Mania will be available on the Epic Game Store. That’s a lot of Sonic.
