Terry Brooks Announces Retirement From Writing Effective Immediately, Delilah Dawson to Take Over on Shannara

In a shocking announcement, author Terry Brooks has announced his retirement as a full time author.

The world of fantasy novels was sent reeling earlier today when Terry Brooks released a blog post announcing his retirement “effective immediately” from being a full time author once his final work Galaphile releases on March 11.

While Brooks acknowledged that this news would be upsetting for many, he also pointed out that now being 81 years of age, writing had become increasingly difficult and the time seemed right to retire.

That being said, Brooks had a further anouncement about the fate of the Shannara series, arguably his greatest work. Brooks set out to reassure readers that there would be more tales to come set in the world of Shannara but they would now be overseen by author Delilah Dawson.

As Brooks himself put it:

“I know her well and have been friends with her for years. Both my editor and I have agreed that she is the right choice to take on the task of continuing SHANNARA. That she can provide the skills and inventiveness that is needed to accomplish this is something of which I am sure. She is every bit as professionally capable and committed as I am. What help and support I can give her, I will. That she will give you what you want and expect is something I am certain she will do.”
