Welcome to another look at the highs and lows of Hollywood remakes. This time, we’ve got one of the better ones, as we compare two of the all-time great screen comedians in two of their best roles. This week, Cinelinx looks at The Nutty Professor.
After decades of talking about this project, and the failure of the TV pilot last year, Paramount has roped in Eddie Murphy to finally return to the big screen in March of 2016, as maverick detective Axel Foley, for a fourth Beverly Hills Cop adventure, directed by Brett Ratner.
Like Kevin Costner, Mel Gibson, and Robin Williams, the 2000's were not kind to the film career of Eddie Murphy. Somewhere along the way either because of the films he was in or the characters he repetitively played, he fell out of favor with audiences. Beverly Hills Cop is a good reminder why we fell in love with him in the first place, and why he was and arguably still is a great talent.
