SEGA has certainly been cooking with the steady drip-feed of Virtua Fighter re-releases and teases towards its latest release, but that drip has become a deluge at Summer Game Fest 2026. SEGA and developer RGG Studios have dropped a new trailer for Virtua Fighter with a new name and a surprising new narrative focus:
The video not only introduces us to the new character, Cielo, but to a more cinematic and compelling storyline than we’ve come to expect from many fighting games at all, much less from a Virtua Fighter title. In fact, speaking of titles, were it not for the highlighted “VI” in the game’s official logo, I’d have assumed that Virtua Fighter Crossroads was to be some sort of tie-in game, and not the next core installment!
There are still more questions than answers, though hopefully much will be revealed soon, as a dedicated Virtua Fighter Crossroads showcase will be premiering later today offering a deep dive on the writing and the battle system. This showcase will be streamed across all of Sega’s social medias at 5PM PDT.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads is still tentatively scheduled for a 2027 release, with more info sure to follow in the months to come!
