The indie dating simulation game Date Everything! is full of surprises and is definitely more than meets the eye.
*warning: minor spoilers below for Date Everything!
I recently had the opportunity to play through the dating simulation game Date Everything! and was blown away by how much I enjoyed myself. I usually don’t play dating sim games, being more of an RPG/JRPG devotee. However, between the game employing a number of voice actors whose work I admire, and the absolutely insane premise, I just had to check the game out for myself.
For this review I played the game on the Playstation 5.
The Story
As mentioned above, Date Everything! is a dating simulation game, but not in the traditional sense. The player finds themselves gifted a high-tech pair of glasses that bring the furniture and various parts of the house to life. As the player is implied to have lived in this house for a number of years, all of the furniture items know the player quite well and are very interested in getting to know them better.
Date Everything!
Developer: Sassy Chap Games
Platform: PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch
Release Date: June 17, 2025
There is a story beyond this, and I like how the developers drop in the various story beats over each day of in-game time. It gets deep surprisingly fast; even the conversations with the various household items can take unexpected turns depending on the conversation option you choose.
Speaking of, for those concerned about how…intense…the conversations might get, Date Everything! does have an option to avoid overly sexual/explicit conversations if that makes the player uncomfortable. Furthermore, there are conversation options for players that are aromatic or asexual (or both) and aren’t interested in talking about physical sex. As an asexual person, I was pleased to see the game acknowledging that not everyone is interested in sex and that is no barrier to a satisfying relationship.
The Gameplay
There are 100 dateable characters to be unlocked in the game, so most of the gameplay centers around locating new furniture characters around the house. This isn’t quite as easy as it looks. For one, only five characters can be spoken to per game day, and the same character can’t be spoken to twice in the same day. For another, it’s easier than you think to accidentally select the same character twice. For instance, clicking any table or table-like item in the house will bring up the same character.
Once the tutorial phase of the game is complete, the player is free to “awaken” the dateable characters in any order they’d like. Once the “bigger” items are awakened, the fun comes in examining smaller items to see what can be awakened and what cannot. Some items, for instance, can only be reached at a certain time of day. Others have tasks that can be completed but only if certain dateables have already been unlocked. This is the type of game where there is always something to do.
An important game tip: be sure to explore everywhere with the glasses off, there are some things that can’t be accessed while the glasses are activated.
Top Tier Voice Acting
One thing that really sets Date Everything! apart is the high quality voice acting for every character. It feels like every major voice actor you can think of is a part of this game. This has the benefit of making each character feel real, like they’re real beings that could just leap right off the screen. As an added bonus, as you unlock the different characters, each voice actor is credited alongside, so when you hear a new voice and think “Wait, I know who that is…” you can immediately go look and see if you were right.
And then there’s the puns. Puns, everywhere. Each character’s name is a clever pun on what object they are in real life and some of them are hysterically funny (my personal favorite for the pun names is Friar Errol, think it over and you’ll probably realize what household item he is).
A Game Worth Playing
It’s hard to put into words just how amazing Date Everything! is without spoiling the entire plot. Suffice it to say, this is the type of game that swiftly draws you in and before you know it hours have passed. The story is beyond charming and just when you think you know what’s happening, a new twist is thrown into the works. Please check this game out if you get the chance, you will not regret it.
