Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken is a Must-Have for Your Blu-Ray Collection – Review

Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken arrives on DVD and Blu-Ray this week and we’re here to let you know why it is absolutely worth adding to your collection.

DreamWorks Animation’s newest adventure, Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. In my review earlier this summer, I stated this was easily one of the best animated films to come out this year and that opinion remains the same having checked out the film on Blu-Ray. The story retains all of the charm from when I saw it in theaters and it now comes with a slew of bonus features (detailed below).

The Collector’s Edition of Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken is delightful in every sense of the word. One of my favorite special features is the one where you’re walked through how to draw some of the main characters from the film. That’s not a feature you see in a lot of home releases and I hope it becomes more common because it’s a lot of fun. I also enjoyed the animated short that looks into the history of kraken stories and how they’ve changed over time.

Dive into the turbulent waters of high school with this heartwarming action comedy about a shy teenager who discovers that she’s part of a legendary royal lineage of mythical sea krakens and that her destiny, in the depths of the oceans, is bigger than she ever dreamed. Learning to be an all-powerful sea creature while hiding among humans is hard enough for Ruby, but to make matters worse, her super popular new bestie, Chelsea, is secretly a mermaid! Mermaids have been battling the Krakens for eons to rule the ocean, but Chelsea has come to land to finally put an end to that conflict. However, when Chelsea double-crosses her, Ruby will ultimately need to embrace who she is and GO BIG to protect those she loves most.

If you’ve seen Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken or if you missed it in theaters, I highly recommend getting a copy of this movie on DVD or Blu-Ray, it is absolutely worth it.
