Destin Daniel Cretton Set to Direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Just a few days after its initial announcement, it looks like we now know who will be directing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Over the weekend, Marvel dominated SDCC by revealing their entire Phase 5 slate of films, while also giving us a glimpse at Phase 6. Phase 6 will end with two Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. With little information (other than release dates) to go with, fans immediately began speculating on who might be handling directing duties on these big event films.

Rumors swirled for a bit that the Russos (who handled Infinity War and Endgame) might potentially return for them, but that was quickly squashed by Kevin Feige himself. Now, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we know who will be handling The Kang Dynasty: Destin Daniel Cretton.

That’s right, Marvel is staying “in house” and going with the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director to helm the 2025 movie. I think it’s a great choice, though I’m curious to see what this means for the Shang-Chi sequel (which should be among the unnanounced Phase 6 films). Will he handle both, or does that mean we’ll get a new director for Shang-Chi 2?

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is slated to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
