The previously announced Hunger Games prequel film will have a familiar director, as Francis Lawrence has been tapped to helm the feature.
Last summer it was announced that Suzanne Collins’ upcoming prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes would be turned into a motion picture chronicling the early years of Coriolanus Snow long before he becomes the president of Panem. In an update, it’s now been learned that Francis Lawrence has been chosen to direct this prequel film.
If the name sounds familiar, it should: Lawrence was responsible for directing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2. Directing three of the four films makes Lawrence more than qualified to return to this dystopian world and explore its earlier years. It’s also been learned that screenwriter Michael Arndt and producer Nina Jacobson will also be returning to work on this film.
There has been no word on when production will start on Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, nor any indication of when the film will release. However, the book is currently scheduled to be released on May 19, 2020.
