The First Look at ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ is…Something

THE LION KING - Featuring the voices of JD McCrary as Young Simba, and James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Disney’s “The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau. In theaters July 19, 2019. © 2019 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

The first look at Mufasa: The Lion King has arrived and it doesn’t look good.

Disney saw fit today to release the first look at Mufasa: The Lion King, the prequel absolutely nobody asked for. Considering it’s been five years since CGI remake was released, I’d actually garnered a tiny modicum of curiosity as to what this film might look like…and then I saw the image below:

And then I remembered exactly why I’d avoided the remake like the plague. This teaser image looks like it came straight out of the 2019 film and that is not a good thing. You know if this were a traditionally animated film, there would be all sorts of details to distinguish young Mufasa from young Simba. But this CGI look….this is not going to work.

I don’t know what Disney was hoping to achieve with this first look….but so far it is doing nothing for me.

What do you think of this first image from Mufasa: The Lion King?
