Cast for Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Brings Back Familiar Faces and Newcomers

As filming on the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series is set to begin next month, today Lucasfilm has announced an impressive cast.

Talk about an exciting surprise! This morning, Lucasfilm announced a stacked cast list for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney Plus. A couple (like Hayden Christensen and Indira Varma) we’d heard of before, but there’s a WHOLE lot more to be excited about here.

I love seeing Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse back to once again portray Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru (pretty much guaranteeing a young Luke will pop up) as they did in the Prequels. It’s also neat to see Kumail on the cast, considering he’ll be appearing in Marvel’s Eternals later this year. Not to mention I never thought I’d see the day when a Safdie brother was cast in Star Wars!

“Obi-Wan Kenobi,” the new Disney+ special event series starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master, will begin shooting in April. The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.

“Obi-Wan Kenobi” is executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and writer Joby Harold. The casting director is Carmen Cuba.

With Deborah Chow directing the series, I know we’re in for a treat. As the announcement states, filming is set to begin next month and last I heard it was early April. So cameras should be rolling within the next couple weeks!
