Stadia to get ‘Recharged’ Atari Classics to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Happy Birthday Atari!

Atari’s 50th Anniversary came with the announcement that a number of remastered and updated classics are headed to Stadia: Centipede: RechargedBlack Widow: RechargedAsteroids: Recharged, and Breakout: Recharged.

Players also have a new title to look forward to with the “brain-bending puzzle platformer” Kombinera, the company said in a blog post.

Stadia announced the “Recharged” titles are totally (read: every mode and level) playable in solo or local co-op.

Centipede: Recharged is the first to hit Stadia on July 1.

“The original bug-blasting arcade game is back! Centipede: Recharged has been reimagined for modern gameplay, with vibrant visuals designed for modern screens and a 16:9 field of play,” the company said. “A dozen new power-ups can give you an edge by introducing abilities like screen-clearing explosions, rail guns, and even slowing down time. Every mode and level is playable in local co-op mode with a friend.”

Black Widow: Recharged will launch later this Summer with modern gameplay enhancements, visuals and new abilities.

“Collect cash from downed enemies to charge a powerful web blast, or pick up one of a dozen new power-ups including explosive blasts, spread-shots and fear, trapping all enemies in your web. Every mode and level is playable in local co-op mode with a friend,” Stadia shared.

The new title Kombinera will launch sometime in the Fall.

“Formidable puzzles. Precise navigation. Balls. Simultaneous control. Special abilities. A fallen king…” The company said. “Control multiple colored balls simultaneously in this brain-bending puzzle platformer. It’s up to you to combine every ball and complete each perilous level. Can you solve them all? Can you save King Kombine from the Kave of Kaos?”

Players will control at least five colored ball simultaneously to avoid obstacles and solve challenging puzzles. Different balls have different special abilities used to solve the puzzles and merge all the balls together to complete levels.

Also coming in the Fall is Asteroids: Recharged. The game gets the same “Recharged” enhancements as the previous two.

“An entirely new collection of power-ups — including spread shots, rail guns, reflector shields, and more — will help stave off splintering asteroids and aggressive UFOs. Co-op play lets you play with a friend, and ramps up the intensity as players do their best to coordinate and survive,” the company wrote.

Breakout: Recharged is the last of the bunch to release late in the year with the same updates as the previous titles with the same OG brick breaking action.

“The endless arcade mode and 50 challenge levels will push you to the limit of your skills. Don’t fret, however, as this wouldn’t be a Recharged title without game-changing powerups,” Stadia wrote. “Expect the aid of rail guns, homing missiles, and explosives to join the traditional multi-ball. You’ll need every tool in the arsenal and razor-sharp reflexes to climb the global leaderboards.”

The classic titles will join the Google Stadia library of over 200 games.
