Focal Point: Gaming And Giving Thanks (Redux)

It’s that special time of year, where you gather round with family and stuff yourselves silly with all manner of good food.  It’s also that time of year where I’m insanely busy and had to resort to another REDUX comic strip to make up for lost time.  I change it up pretty significantly from last year, cutting out 2 whole panels and re-arranging some wording.  Besdies which, I DID post a new strip last week online, though I didn’t feel it directly related to anything we cover on the site.  As such, I decided against posting it up on the site.  Regardless, there’s a brand spanking new comic of mine out in the world…though I’m particularly fond of this one:

Thanksgiving Redux

Being a parent is rough and hard work.  When you’re a gamer as well, finding time to squeeze in some much needed game time is nigh impossible.  I don’t like to play a lot of games around the kids, though it’s a little easier the older they get, so my gaming is relegated to after bedtime hours.  The problem, however, is that’s also the only time I have to hang out with my girlfriend, draw, or write.  So I have to pick and choose.

This time of year is always ripe with a multitude of game releases, and being a parent makes this even harder to try and squeeze everything in.  The above situation is something that has actually happened to me on more than one occasion.  I’ve sat down, ready to get my game on, controller in hand, and I completely pass out.  Next thing I know, I’m sitting up and seeing that it’s late at night, or several hours later, and my window of playing opportunity has passed me by.

When I was younger, Thanksgiving break was a great time for me to sit around and play games.  The holiday has never been that big to me and I used the week off as a chance to play catch up on the backlog.  With kiddos about, Thanksgiving has certainly changed for me and is a busy (but very fun) day.  As such gaming hasn’t been happening much during this time of the year as it has in the past and I expect that I’ll be too tired to even think about it when it’s all over.  These are the perils of being a gamer parent, but I wouldn’t change it.

From myself and all of us here at Cinelinx we hope you have a great Thanksgiving week, regardless of how you celebrate it.  Be sure to tell us how you’re spending it in the comments below, and what games you’ll be “trying” to play.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the Focal Point Facebook Page and check out some of the newStar Wars themed prints I have up on Red Bubble.
