Chris Pine and Crew in Talks for New Star Trek Movie Filming This Year

Among the many announcements Paramount made during their Investor Day presentation is their plan to film a new Star Trek movie this year with the reboot crew reunited.

Paramount has gone whole hog with Star Trek in recent years. With a slew of successful TV series (including two animated shows), about the only thing lagging behind is the big screen. While we know they have a film on the way, with a release date set for December 22, 2023 and Matt Shakman directing, we’ve known pretty much nothing else.

Yesterday, during their Investor Day presentation, JJ Abrams came on to announce the film is moving along well and set to begin filming later this year. Even better, the plan is to have the cast from the previous films to return; giving us a Kelvin Timeline continuation!

Though the deals aren’t set in stone, Paramount is now in talks with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg to reprise their roles. I really loved those reboot films and how the gave Trek a much needed boost of life, and that cast is phenomenal together. As such, I’m glad to see they’re getting another chance for adventure.
