Harrison Ford Will Take Over General Ross Role in Captain America: New World Order

After a couple weeks of rumors circulating, today makes it official: Harrison Ford will play General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, following William Hurt’s footsteps in the MCU.

Harrison Ford is officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. File that under things I can’t say I ever really expected to happen. Over the last couple weeks, rumors began popping up (originally reported by Jeff Sneider on his new podcast, and later backed up by Slashfilm) that Marvel was courting Harrison Ford to portray Thaddeus Ross in upcoming Marvel films.

The iconic character, originally portrayed by William Hurt before his passing, debuted in The Incredible Hulk, before popping up again in Captain America: Civil War. With a Thunderbolts movie already announced (a team which gets its name from Ross) and more “Hulks” beginning to pop up, it seemed inevitable the character would play a big part in the upcoming stories.

Casting doesn’t get much bigger than this, and the announcement brings word, Ford will first portray the character in the new Captain America movie, New World Order (which has already revealed another Hulk villain, the Leader, being the bad guy). Presumably, Ross will then make an appearance in Thunderbolts. I suspect this means we’ll also get to see Red Hulk finally make an appearance and it’s wild to think it’ll be carrying Ford’s visage along with it. What a wild time.

Captain America: New World Order is currently set to hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
