Cinelinx’s Geeky Gift Guide 2020

Sometimes, finding the perfect gift for the nerd in your life can be difficult. Movies don’t seem right, and neither do games…That’s where our Geek Wish List comes in!

It’s that time of year again when the weather gets cold, and the Christmas decorating/shopping has begun. If you have movie lovers, gamers, or nerds in general, on your shopping list the Cinelinx team is here to help you find the perfect gift with our annual gift guides.

Earlier this week, we presented you with our annual MOVIE and GAMING gift guides. If those weren’t enough and you’re still on the hunt for the perfect Christmas present this year, then perhaps our general Geek Wish List will be what’s in order!

Board/Tabletop games – Board games are always a solid choice, but I know that I will not be able to provide recommendations that appeal to the wide swath of tastes that can be catered to. Some of my favorite games that don’t take hours to complete are Seven Wonders, Machi Koro, Linkee and Code Names (we also can’t forget the official Cinelinx game!). I do also enjoy games that require some time and dedication, like Settlers of Catan, and Pathfinder is fantastic for those looking to dip their toes in a lighter version of Dungeons and Dragons. Dungeons and Dragons guide books, including the introductory Players Handbook, are great gifts that can bring the family together around the table for more than just Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner.

Ita bags – Do you have an enamel pin collector in your life? As one, I’ve always struggled how to showcase some of the amazing pins I’ve picked up over the years at events or from amazing artists and I discovered last year that those same artists are oftentimes making custom bags with windows protected by clear plastic to create elaborate pin layouts to fly their geek flag high.

I personally love this large tote purse by Daymare, but you can find scores of different types of Ita bags on Etsy, Kickstarter, Amazon and more! You can pick up purses, backpacks, fanny packs, and pretty much every type of purse imaginable thanks to the wonderful creative energy of artists online.

Metapod Sleeping Bag – Bandai launched pre-orders in Japan for a Metapod sleeping bag (pod?) that has taken the internet by storm. The sleeping bag will be released in April 2021 for ¥35,000 which roughly converts to about $335 in USD before international shipping.

Adventure Time BMO Switch Dock – Continuing on the trend of silly things I absolutely need in my life, I stumbled upon this adorable Nintendo Switch dock that allows you to play your favorite titles on TV’s best game-console-come-to-life: BMO.

JORDAN

The Mandalorian Polaroid Camera – It’s dumb, it makes no real sense in context of Star Wars, but I’ll be damned if I don’t want this The Mandalorian branded Polaroid Camera. It’s just cool. On top of getting a camera with a Star Wars-esque color scheme, the specialty film that comes with it has unique frames for fans to enjoy.

Wacom Intuos – If you’re looking for some fun tech related gifts for creative people, you can’t go wrong with Wacom. Their new wave of Intuos products are perfect for people of all skill ranges, while still being affordable. You get all the quality Wacom is known for in a tidy package that will fit nicely under the tree.

Arcade1Up – I know, I know…this should have gone onto our Gaming Gift Guide, but since I already had an Arcade Related product on there, I didn’t want them to compete with one another. Regardless, Arcade1Up always brings the goods with their replica cabinets and have more options this Christmas season than ever before. From Star Wars to Ninja Turtles, sports games, and other classics, the options are endless and every player would love to have one of their own.

LEGO Jigsaw Puzzle – When I was younger, one of my favorite things to do during the Christmas/Holiday break, were jigsaw puzzles. Crazy childhood, I know, but it was something I loved to do. If you know someone who feels the same way, Chronicle has recently launched a line of official puzzles based around the LEGO brand. Definitely something toy collectors would enjoy finding next to their stockings.

Marvel Battleworld: Mystery of the Thanostones – Comic book fans and parents with kids who love comics can pick up the latest Battleworld expansion. The adventure game is great for families as it’s something that can be easily played with the kids, while incorporating fun little toys and characters we all know and love.
