It’s certainly Star Wars Celebration time.
At the Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 panel during Star Wars Celebration Japan, we got the release date for Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 and news about a new spinoff series about one of the top-rated episodes of the series.
Volume 3’s nine new shorts will release on October 29. We also learned about an “all-new spin-off series of longer stories from Star Wars: Visions,” according to Star Wars.
The Vol. 1 short The Ninth Jedi is getting a continuation in the upcoming Vol. 3 titled Child of Hope, which will be followed by the series titled Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.
The episode is tied for most highly-rated at 8.4 stars out of 10 (though it has a few thousand less total votes) on IMDB with the episode titled The Duel.
“I made a short story called The Ninth Jedi during Volume 1,” said The Ninth Jedi writer and director Kenji Kamiyama. “Director Shiotani is making one more film this time [Child of Hope], and it ends with Kara’s departure to look for her father in the first short film.”
The show will delve into more lightsaber lore in the Star Wars universe, particularly about how lightsabers that change color depending on one’s Force, Star Wars said in a blog about the panel.
Kamiyama said that Kara’s father invented these lightsabers and has been kidnapped and that he thinks the show “will be a story where those secrets will be told.” Kamiyama said he will be working in the capacity of supervising director on the spinoff.
